The Design Annual will be held each year under a new motto. The 2006 theme was "urbanity" and highlighted trailblazing aspects of life and construction in cities today. In this way, the show responded to current trends in design and at the same time reflects relevant social trends. The Design Annual made use of urban space as a metaphor, as the product of density and concentration, as the meeting point of various currents, as the collecting point of cultures and subcultures. The metropolis as traffic node, as an ongoing construction site, public space and the seedbed of change and renewal.
